Two people were killed in two separate accidents in Aiken County today.

The first accident occurred around 1 a.m. when Monty L. Pettit of Gaston was struck by a vehicle while he was walking along Highway 302 near Wagener. Pettit, 49, was pronounced dead at Aiken Regional Medical Centers.

An autopsy Sunday in Newberry revealed the victim died from blunt force trauma. Toxicology is pending.

The semi was stopped on Columbia Highway North letting out a passenger when a 2009 Harley Davidson motorcycle, driven by John J. Dickert of North Augusta, struck the truck, according to the S.C. Highway Patrol.

Dickert, 49, was pronounced dead at the scene.

He was not wearing a helmet, according to the S.C. Highway Patrol. Toxicology is pending.

The driver of the semi, David Richardson of Aiken, was wearing a seat belt.

The accident is under investigation by the S.C. Highway Patrol.
