Two people were killed in two separate accidents in Aiken County on Sunday.

The first accident occurred about 1 a.m. when Monty L. Pettit of Gaston was struck by a vehicle while walking along Highway 302 near Wagener. Pettit, 49, was pronounced dead at Aiken Regional Medical Center.

An autopsy Sunday in Newberry revealed the victim died from blunt force trauma. Toxicology is pending.

At this time, the vehicle involved has not been located as it failed to stop after the collision, according to the Aiken County Coroner’s Office.

S.C. Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.

The second accident occurred about 10:20 a.m. Sunday on Columbia Highway North near Duke Drive involving a semitruck and a motorcycle.

The semi was stopped on Columbia Highway North letting off a passenger when a 2009 Harley Davidson motorcycle driven by John J. Dickert of North Augusta struck the truck, according to the S.C. Highway Patrol.

Dickert, 49, was pronounced dead at the scene.

He was not wearing a helmet, according to the S.C. Highway Patrol.

Toxicology is pending.

The driver of the semi, David Richardson of Aiken, was wearing a seat belt.

The accident is under investigation by S.C. Highway Patrol.
