USC Aiken 2
The USC Aiken volleyball team had its 11-match winning streak come to an end in a (25-20, 23-25, 25-22, 24-26, 15-11) road loss to Lander in Peach Belt Conference volleyball action Wednesday.
Leading two games to one, Lander (8-8, 4-1) looked as if it would close out the match in the fourth game, pulling to within one point of the victory at 24-21. USCA (15-6, 4-1) wouldn’t let it end there though, scoring the next five points for a thrilling 26-24 come-from-behind win. Lander regained control, opening the fifth game with an 11-3 lead. The Pacers battled back, but eventually fell, 15-11.
Three Pacers finished with double-digit kills in the loss to Lander. Ashley Diedrich claimed a double-double in the match with 14 kills and 10 digs. She also had three blocks. Alyssa Johnson had 11 kills, while Leah Rodgers posted 10 kills. Johnson also had three blocks.
Samantha Lukralle led USCA with 27 digs while, reigning two-time PBC Player of the Week Shannon Byers was right behind with 25. Byers also had three blocks in the match.
USC Aiken will close out the week with road matches with Flagler (Friday) and Armstrong (Saturday).
Volleyball match dedicated to breast cancer awareness
The Aiken High volleyball match against North August night is dedicated to breast cancer awareness. Any student wearing a pink T-shirt will be admitted to the game free. Donation cans will be at the front door with proceeds going to the American Cancer Society.
Fox Creek 4
The Fox Creek High School girls tennis team finished its season Tuesday on a high note, defeating Batesburg-Leesville 4-3. The win gave the Predators a 3-7 record in Region 4-AA, good enough for a fourth-place finish. Corrie Hall, Sarah Chafin and Savannah Jones each had singles wins for Fox Creek, while the doubles team of Hall and Chafin also netted a win.
South Aiken 6
North Augusta 0
The South Aiken High School tennis team swept its rivals from North Augusta on Tuesday. In singles, Kayla Calvert beat Taylor Elam (6-1, 6-1), Savannah Gantt beat Grace Flanders (6-2, 6-0), Elizabeth Butler beat Megan Zeaser (6-3, 6-2), Megan Swarthout beat Kate Wells (6-0, 6-3) and Tanvi Patel beat Kaitlin Wooden (6-3, 6-1). The Thoroughbreds doubles team of Audrey Thomas and Elise Jones beat Lacey Enevoldsen and Anna Hendrick 6-2, 4-6, 10-6.
USC Aiken finishes fifth at Firestone Invitational
The seventh-ranked USC Aiken men’s golf team finished in fifth place at The Firestone Invitational at Firestone Country Club in Akron, Ohio.
The only Division II team in the field, the Pacers closed out the event on Tuesday with a two-round team score of 586 (285-301). USCA had four players finish in the top-30 individually, with Matt Atkins leading the way by tying for fifth place. Atkins finished his two rounds in the tournament with a 2-under score of 142 (68-74). JP Solis tied for 20th with a two-round tally of 147 (69-78), while Mark Dickson and Kyle Godsman tied for 30th with two-round scores of 149.
Ball State won the team tile with a score of 569 (282-287). Maryland’s Sean Bosdosh carded a two-round score of 139 (69-70) to win medalist honors.
USCA will close out the fall portion of its schedule by participating in Georgia State’s AutoTrader.com Collegiate Classic at Berkeley Hills Country Club in Duluth, Ga. The tournament will be next Monday and Tuesday.
North Augusta’s Rickman second in Super Senior Championship
After leading the first round of the SCGA’s Super Senior Championship, North Augusta’s Bob Rickman could hold off the hard-charging Bob Stringer, who shot the low score of the tournament. His 1-under 70 gave him a two-day total of 145 to win the tournament for the second year in a row. Rickman tied for second with Denny Adkins at 146 in the event was played at Florence Country Club.

Leavalle McCampbell 6
The North Augusta Middle School football team improved to 5-0 on the season with a victory over Leavalle McCampbell (0-5). North Augusta will play host to Paul Knox next Wednesday at North Augusta High School.
