The Imani Group and USC Aiken are co-sponsoring a screening of the documentary “Survivor,” a documentary about human trafficking, scheduled at the university’s Business and Education Building gym Tuesday at 7 p.m.
Brook Parker Bello, an actress and producer, will attend the exclusive screening of her documentary and participate in a panel discussion about her own survival and restoration from human trafficking.
The Rev. Brendolyn Jenkins-Boseman, director of the Imani Group in Aiken, will serve as moderator for the panel. Other participants include Barbara Morgan, retired Aiken County solicitor; Charles Barranco, Aiken Department of Public Safety director; Michelle Billie, USCA Student Government vice president; and Ka Flewellen, co-founder of the International Black Women’s Public Policy Institute.
Jenkins-Boseman serves on the board of directors for the institute, which served as executive producer of the documentary.
“Brook’s story is so compelling as an international issue,” Jenkins-Boseman said. “But human trafficking is growing in this area, and many people are unaware of it. The I-20 corridor is a major traffic area, and young ladies who are not street smart are lured into this.”
Tickets are available at USCA’s Student Life Center office in the Student Activity Center or by calling the Imani Group at 392-7095. Tickets are $25 for a VIP reception and screening or $15 for the screening and panel discussion. The screening and panel program are $7 for seniors and students.
For more information, call Jenkins-Boseman at the Imani Group number above or USCA’s Aja Vaughn, assistant director of Student Life for Diversity Initiatives, at 641-3442.
“Survivor” was featured at the 65th International Film Festival in Cannes, France.
