Daisy Devine, Fortify and Willcox Inn place in Grade 1 stakes

Jim and Debbie Millerís Daisy Devine found herself in front in the stretch, was game and determined, but would ultimately give into her foe Tapitsfly, and would miss by a half-length in the Grade 1 $350,000 First Lady Stakes at Keeneland. Dasiy Devine was making her first start in 5-months in the 1-mile turf race on Saturday, having last raced on May 5th in the Distaff Turf Mile at Churchill Downs, a race where she finished 5th. The 4-year-old daughter of Kafwain became a Grade 1 winner by capturing the 1 1/16-mile Jenny Wiley Stakes on the turf at Keeneland on April 14. Daisy Devine is conditioned by Andrew McKeever and was ridden by James Graham. The bay filly who was purchased at the 2009 Keeneland Yearling Sale for $5,500, increased her earnings to $834,916.

Godolphin Racingís Fortify, who placed second in the Grade 2 Hopeful Stakes at Saratoga Race Course his last time out on Sept. 3, placed third Saturday in the 1-mile $400,000 Grade 1 Foxwoods Champagne Stakes at Belmont Park. The juvenile son of Grade 2 winner Distorted Humor raced close to the pace, and stalked the leaders throughout the race, but couldnít catch the top two finishers. Fortify is conditioned by Kiaran McLaughlin, and was ridden by 2-time Eclipse Award winning Jockey Ramon Dominguez. Fortify was broken and trained in Aiken by Tim Jones.

The bay colt increased his lifetime earnings to $148,000.

Lael Stable and All In Stableís Willcox Inn went five wide in the stretch of the Grade 1 $750,000 Shadwell Turf Mile Saturday at Keeneland, but had to settle for second as there was no catching the winner Wise Dan. The 4-year-old dark bay colt is named after Aikenís Willcox Inn, and is conditioned by Mike Stidham. Willcox Inn increased his lifetime bankroll to $668,543.
