Aiken County Parks, Recreation and Tourism’s 2013 Happy Places calendar featuring more than a dozen pictures taken by amateur and hobbyist photographers will be unveiled next week.
The calendar, along with the winning pictures submitted in the first Aiken County Park, Recreation and Tourism Department photography contest, will be revealed to the public on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Aiken County Historical Museum on 433 Newberry St. S.W.
Twelve pictures, highlighting the wildlife, events, places and architecture of Aiken County, won to accompany the calendar months. A 13th picture graces the front of the calendar, chosen by popular vote through Facebook.
All of the 20 submitted pictures will be on display at the museum beginning Saturday. Each is up for silent auction at the unveiling ceremony from 6 to 6:45 p.m. A live auction of the winning photographs will be held during the ceremony as well. Each has been enlarged and stretched on canvas. Bids start at $25.
The calendars will be available for purchase for $12 and will also be for sale at the Aiken County Visitor’s Center in the Holly Building on Laurens Street.
Proceeds of the auction and calendar sales will support senior programs in Aiken County.
