Sheriff’s Office looks into child neglect case
Aiken County Sheriff’s deputies are investigating an alleged case of child neglect after a young girl was reportedly exposed to bleach inside a Beech Island home.
According to a report, the girl’s father told deputies he was in the living room of the home when he heard his daughter screaming in the kitchen area. He went into the laundry room and found his daughter in a puddle of bleach, then took her into the kitchen to rinse her off.
The father reportedly told a woman in the home to call 911. The woman told deputies that she felt the father “exposed his daughter to the bleach and that this was not an accident.”
According to the report, the woman gave deputies “several different accounts” of what happened, including who was inside and where the incident happened.
No charges have been filed.
Public Safety detains burglary suspect
A 52-year-old Aiken man was detained for disorderly conduct after Public Safety officers found him sleeping on a construction site at the corner of Laurens Street and Hayne Avenue.
According to the report, John Clemente was sleeping next to a grocery bag with four bottles of wine in it. Clemente told officers he got the wine from his home and he was “having a lot of personal problems.”
Officers also found a full bottle of wine in the roadway of Hayne Avenue, broken bottles on Laurens Street and in The Alley, and an empty wine box near a trash can in The Alley across from Davor’s.
According to the report, an officer found the handle of a walk-in cooler behind Davor’s broken off. A restaurant representative told officers that the wine bottles and box found came from the cooler.
A hold was placed on Clemente for third-degree burglary.
