If you’ve ever wondered what was in that delicious fruity drink, or even how to make one, then The Willcox was the place to be earlier in the week.

Restaurant Manager Matt Sayer held the third annual cocktail class, but with such a huge response, he said they plan on doing one again next month.

“I’m basically giving Aiken something to do on a Wednesday night,” Sayer joked. “I want to educate people on what they’re drinking, how to drink it and how to make it.”

Sayer began the class by going over the history of some of the liquors on display, including 42-Below, a popular vodka from his home country of New Zealand.

He then used the top-shelf vodka to whip up a batch of 42-Below Caipiroska. The drink called for some simple syrup and lime wedges to be muddled in a glass, then topped with vodka and ice.

He had volunteers Matt Jordan and James Wall help prepare the drinks, then served them to the roughly 30 in attendance.

“I serve it here; I love it,” Sayer said about the 42-Below vodka. “I want to bring awareness to it.”

Sayer introduced five other drinks, as well; Rosato Martini, Passionate Cosmo, Sapphire Collins, Dewar’s Sidecar and The Original Mojito.

After teaching the class the history of the different liquors and drinks, Sayer quizzed the group and handed out 42-Below merchandise to the winners.

With all 30 reservation spots sold out, Sayer said he was forced to turn away about that same amount the day of the class, so he is looking at bringing it back to The Willcox sometime next month.
