The SPCA Dog Park at 199 Willow Run Road. The SPCA Albrecht Center for Animal Welfare is seeking donations to help renovate the play yard.

The SPCA Albrecht Center is seeking support from the community to help raise vital donations to help renovate an outdoor enrichment space for its shelter dogs. The Paws ‘n Play project is a campaign to completely overhaul the SPCA’s current outdoor space for the homeless dogs in their care. This space is inadequate for the shelter dogs and an enriching, safe space for these dogs is necessary for their quality of life.

A shelter does not exist just to find forever homes for the animals it serves, though that is the No. 1 goal. But, providing for the care for these animals while they’re in the shelter’s care is also priority.

It’s not enough to provide vet care, food and love to the animals. Finding ways to stimulate an animals’ mind to reduce boredom and stress is also essential in a shelter setting no matter how well they are treated. This space would work to improve enrichment at the SPCA Albrecht Center.

The current play yard is inadequate to meet the goal of this program. Though the initial intentions were to create an outdoor space for volunteers and staff to work with the dogs, attention was never truly given to the space . It lacks proper fencing, good grass, shaded areas during summer and functioning agility equipment .

This project, predicted to be completed in early 2022, will require $50,000 to complet. This goal includes everything from running water to keep the space and equipment sanitized, proper fencing with gates to keep animals safe and enclosed, tree service for dead trees, enrichment toys and equipment, and more.

Nearly 10% of this goal has been raised thanks to the support of the community.

As a nonprofit, these lifesaving projects for the animals are only attainable thanks to donations as well as sponsorships. Donations of all sizes are an incredible help toward the goal. For more information or to make a donation, visit letlovelive.org .
