Grace Preston, of Aiken, joined the local nonprofit Umoja Village on April 3. She will serve as its communications adviser. She brings over 10 years of experience in marketing, branding and communications to the team. In this role, Preston is responsible for developing internal and external communications, strategic plans and initiatives.

Grace loves this community and brings a fresh perspective to solving community issues that will prove to benefit our clients, the community in general and the overall mission of Umoja Village," said Donna Moore Wesby, co-founder and CEO of Umoja Village.

Umoja Village focuses on serving and unifying underserved populations. It was was founded in June 2020.

Jamison honored for band achievement

VyShawn Jamison, a seventh-grade trombone player, has earned the Outstanding Band Student award for the third quarter by passing twice as much as was required for an A.

Lander honors English students

Lander University students were recently honored for their academic accomplishments by the College of Arts and Humanities. The following students received awards: Hannah Cooper, English Discipline Award and Creative Writing Award for "Salty Foam"; and Carolyn Carpenter, Margaret M .Bryant Humanities Award.
