Horse Creek Academy DECA was among 645 chapters that achieved Thrive Level recognition during the 2023-2024 school year and will be commended at DECA’s International Career Development Conference (ICDC) held April 27-30 in Anaheim, California.

Each fall, DECA offers four campaigns for chapters to complete as part of their program of leadership for the year. These campaigns are designed to grow membership engagement and build lasting partnerships within the school and local community. Chapters that achieve Thrive Level receive a commemorative pennant, flag and plaque. The chapters also have an opportunity to participate in ICDC. In order to receive Thrive Level recognition, the chapter completed two out of three chapter campaigns, including the community service campaign, ethical leadership campaign, and promotional campaign. Alternatively, the chapter could have participated in the membership campaign, which challenged the chapter to attain two of three goals: recruit 20 professional members, recruit 20 alumni members or increase student membership by 20 more members from the previous school year.

The Horse Creek Academy DECA members who contributed to the Thrive recognition were Dominic James, Lattrell Satchell, Bryce Campbell, Zachary Groseclose, Adriyanna Mack with the assistance of their advisor, Mrs. Lisa Skinner.

Horse Creek Academy DECA completed the Promotional Campaign and Community Service Campaign in the DECA Chapter Campaign Competition. For the Promotional Campaign, HCA DECA completed three school outreach activities, three alumni success stories and three community outreach activities. For the school outreach activities, HCA DECA held a social for the national DECA pumpkin carving contest, put together a DECA calendar to celebrate the month of November which is DECA Month and made flyers and hung them around the school to create interest in the new DECA Chapter. Since DECA is new this year at Horse Creek Academy and this year is the very first graduating class from Horse Creek Academy there are no HCA DECA Alumni. HCA DECA Members wrote their alumni stories about their advisor Lisa Skinner, Summer Watson the HCA Career Guidance Counselor and an Aiken Alumni Travis Phillips. For the community outreach activities, HCA DECA participated in Village Fest, the first ever HCA Trunk-A-Treat and the very first HCA DECA Induction Ceremony. Horse Creek Academy DECA earned Thrive Level in the Chapter Campaigns.

“Horse Creek Academy DECA is new this year. I am so proud of the hard work and dedication given by these DECA Members as they learn and grow with DECA,” said Lisa Skinner, HCA DECA Advisor.
