Business Roundup 1

Good Girl Brewing Co. is scheduled to open in Aiken on May 7 at 880 Banks Mill Road S.E. next to Citizens Park.

Good Girl Brewing Co. is getting close to making its debut in Aiken.

The business is scheduled to open May 7.

Located at 880 Banks Mill Road S.E., Good Girl will serve craft beer made on its premises and food.

The brewery/restaurant’s building, which has been renovated, is the former home of Found Treasures, an antiques and collectibles store that closed in 2020.

Andrew and Rachael Phifer told the Aiken Standard early in 2023 that their friends, Paul and Morgan Batton, and Rachael’s parents had joined them on Good Girl’s ownership team.

Phifer Brewing LLC purchased the 1.26-acre property for Good Girl, which is next to Citizens Park, for $259,000 in January 2021.

The Phifers “have learned to navigate zoning permits, [the] rising cost of lumber and materials, loan approvals, construction delays and more,” according to a Facebook post earlier this year.

“Although the question of opening was always on our minds, we made an intentional choice to put the question ‘are we doing this right and to the best of our abilities?’ first in our mind,” the post further stated. “Sometimes this has made things slower or made us redo processes to get them right, but it has yielded something we can be proud of.”

Apartments sold

The ownership of Powderhouse Apartments in Aiken has changed.

Maki Developments LLC purchased the multifamily residential complex for $2.3 million from Powderhouse Apartments LLC.

The deal closed March 19.

Maki Developments was formed earlier in March in New York.

Its registered agent is Registered Agents Inc., which has a Charleston address.

Powderhouse Apartments’ 10.1-acre site is at 3037 Old Powderhouse Road.

Dollar General produce

The remodeled Dollar General Store at 132 Rudy Mason Parkway in Aiken recently began offering produce, according to an April 15 news release.

“At Dollar General, we strive to be a positive business partner and good community neighbor in Aiken,” said Matthew Simonsen, Dollar General’s senior vice president of real estate and store development, in a prepared statement.

“Although we are not a grocery store,” he added, “we believe the addition of produce in our Aiken store highlights our commitment to deliver a pleasant shopping experience that includes affordable prices on quality products in a convenient location.”

The fresh fruit and vegetables offered at the Dollar General on Rudy Mason Parkway include tomatoes, onions, apples, strawberries, potatoes, lemons and limes, the release stated.

Frozen and refrigerated foods still are available.

Dentist’s new office

A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held April 3 at Dr. Trey Vereen’s new office in Aiken.

It is at 15 Tea Olive Court off Silver Bluff Road.

The dental facility has “a unique interior design inspired by coastal aesthetics and [the local] equestrian heritage, paying homage to the Dr. Vereen’s North Myrtle Beach roots and the rich horse country culture of Aiken,” according to an April 5 news release.

In addition, the new office “showcases the latest in dental technology,” the release stated.

Services offered include comprehensive oral exams, cleanings, teeth whitening and oral cancer screenings. Patients also can get implants, crowns and dentures at the facility.

Vereen’s office formerly was on Two Notch Road.
