TalkBack for Dec. 1
11/30/2009 9:34 PM
Barack Obama

So much talk has been going on in the TalkBack about completely arbitrary things like atheism, crepe myrtles and health care lately, and I feel like we're forgetting one of the most important issues we're facing in the local community. Tusken Raiders have taken over our once beautiful planet Tattooine, and I feel we may be losing our way of life to their hostile tactics. These filthy Sand People frequently attack our moisture farms and kidnap our women, so why hasn't the Obama administration done anything about it?

Once and for all can we put to rest that Barack Obama is not African-American. According to Webster's Dictionary, Obama is mulatto, which is a person who is a first-generation child of a black person and a white person. I am tired of the inaccurate reference used over and over again.

Immigration

In this bad economy we hear how much waste there is, but how come we never hear how much it costs to round up the same illegal coming across the border time after time? I'll bet the cost has been staggering since the 1940s, yet there's still no solution. It's time to bill Mexico for their lack of border patrols. If they don't pay, let's cancel NAFTA. Oh, but wait. How about the American companies that sent their manufacturing there for cheap labor? Guess the laughs on us because that did nothing to stop the problem, and it just moved our jobs south of the border for bigger corporate profits.

Religion

Why do ministers and ushers try to encourage and sometimes make you seat near the front in church? My eyesight and hearing are perfect so if I come to church I should be able to seat where I want to. They need to put the pews in a circle with the pastor in the middle if they want everyone to be seated in the front.

Christianity is one of the few religions that torture the dead, "as in burning in hell for eternity." Is spirituality important? Of course, it generally improves one's life if one believes in something bigger than oneself. However, I do not believe there is only one "right" religion in the world. I do not think that within the Jewish faith, Hinduism, Muslims, Buddhists or the Christian faith one is better than the other, as some religions claim.

Comment Title: Baron
Your example about current Christianity preventing tattoo studios and blue laws still only accounts for SOME Christians. There are many Christians that thought the Blue Laws were stupid, and there are many Christians that HAVE tattoos. It's looked down upon in this country if anyone assumes all Muslims are terrorists b/c of some extremists. Why is it acceptable to assume all Christians are filled with hate and a desire to oppress?

Let's look at present day Chrisitanity then. Christians have up until late in 2009 keep blue laws intact and oppressed businesses and the general public from doing what they please on Sunday mornings. Christians are preventing legal businesses i.e tattoo studios from being granted any business zoning. Christians continually violate the NO SOLICITING signs at the entrance of neighborhoods to bother free people with their rants, rave, and literature. Christians continue to kill doctors who perform abortions and attempt to save us taxpayers from supporting more tax takers. Would you like more?

Comment Title: Again, Don't Hate, Coexist.
Dear Mr. Bruce, are you implying that all Christians are bad? As I stated in the comment below, one should not base their judgements on the FANATICS! There are plenty of rapists, murderers, and molesters that are not Christian... You have to live with them too... And so what if someone supports Palin, people are ignorant. I'm actually unsure why you included that with rapists, murderers, and molesters. Its actually NOT funny to diminish those types of offences by including something stupid and irrelevant.

Comment Title: Don't Hate
Dear Mr. "The Baron", why shouldn't Christians be looked up to? There are many Christians that I look up to. I also admit that there are fanatical Christians that I have no respect for, but, do we let fanatics define the foundations of our judgements? Think about this: Most bears defecate in the woods. Do you start putting down all bears just because ONE of many bears decides to defecate on your front porch? Do you put down ALL Christians just because you have problems with some? If you are going to put down Christianity for its fanatics, you have to put down ALL other beliefs for their fanatics as well: Atheism, Buddhism, Judaism, communism, socialism, fascism, liberalism, conservativism, etc... Also, life is not lived through the past. Life as we know occurs in the present. Deal with the here and now, prepare for the future, and let history be history. Times change, beliefs change, people change.

Comment Title: Tusken Raiders are freedom fighters!
Oh, sure, you'd love for those Stormtroopers to come swooping in with their accurate blaster fire and destroy us Tusken Raiders, wouldn't you? When are you people going to realize that we "Sandpeople," as you so offensively call us, were here first? Tattooine is our world, and we will wrest it back from you poorly adapted, under-dressed humans with your vaporators, your smuggling and your whiny farmboys. Try as you might, you cannot kill Tusken culture! So bring on your Stormtroopers and your Jedi! They'll have my gaffi stick when they pry it from my cold, dead, heavily gloved hands!

Christians don't just torture the dead. For centuries they have tortured people of all walks of life. They have killed them. They have beaten them. They have denied them basic human rights and freedoms. Yeah....Christians aren't people who should be looked up to.
