TalkBack for Nov. 30 11/29/2009 11:29 PM Catching dogs
I agree with the person on Mt. Beulah Road in Windsor who is having a problem with dogs. I have called Aiken County Animal Control at least three times, and nothing is done. There was a tag on my door where the dog catcher came out while I was at work. I have left my number with the girl answering the phone; however, no one has called to let me know when I can expect the dog catcher. I guess Aiken County is waiting on these dogs to attack someone before they will act.
Tattoo parlors
Folks at Woodside aren't alone in objecting to a downtown tattoo parlor. Most ordinary Aikenites also regard people with a multitude of tattoos, rightly or wrongly, as potential criminals and don't want a shop downtown that caters to and draws in such folks.
Thanksgiving
So many churches, including the one my family goes to, only think of Thanksgiving meal for their families. What I mean by that is they won't hear of having a sit-down Thanksgiving meal and inviting people to come. One year, they had one, and there was a little girl that came. When asked what we all are thankful for, she said for this wonderful meal.
Rules of the road
To refresh the memory of drivers; the right lane is for slower traffic, not the left. Maybe you wouldn't get tailgated if you remember that.
Christianity
Christianity hasn't done more damage than homosexuals. There are many Christians who don't have a problem with them. People should live their faith.
Disrespect
It is disrespectful to talk about the Confederate flag in such a way.
Hound blessings
Why don't they get all the hounds together and do a mass blessing?
Taking out trash
The people who collect the trash on Wheat Road would have an easier time if the customers learned to put their trash cans on the side of the road rather than the highway. I hit one damaging my truck. If you go to work at dark you are endangered.

I'm thinking you're the stupid one. The comment about driving when you can't see what's in the road was in response to the final topic post:

You are right we should live in the present time of Christianity.
The nine-year investigation found that Catholic priests and nuns for decades terrorised thousands of boys and girls in the Irish Republic, while government inspectors failed to stop the chronic beatings, rape and humiliation. The high court judge Sean Ryan today unveiled the 2,600-page final report of Ireland's commission into child abuse, which drew on testimony from thousands of former inmates and officials from more than 250 church-run institutions. Police were called to the news conference amid angry scenes as victims were prevented from attending.More than 30,000 children deemed to be petty thieves, truants or from dysfunctional families – a category that often included unmarried mothers – were sent to Ireland's austere network of industrial schools, reformatories, orphanages and hostels from the 1930s until the last facilities shut in the 1990s.

So billions of people will be tortured because they don't believe in the christian god and won't convert. There's another point for homosexuals.. they don't threaten to torture your soul if you don't believe in their ways. Boy the list of examples just keeps growing.

I agree with the other person that said you recieved a green card they cant help it that you complained and then went to work. they dont have as many officers as other agencies throughout the county . I think they probably run into a lot of these unnessary calls and the county of aiken is so large its a wonder it doesnt take them longer than that. you sould be very thankful that you have animal control in aiken and lot of the other countys in south carolina and georgia do not have animal control.

I totally agree with your comment. Tell tailgaters to get off our ass or pay the price of insurance claims. When I hit my brakes to back off tailgaters, I hope they go through their front window. I might be using my brakes due to the car stopping in front of me or to avoid something on the road.

Don't Christians believe in the Old Testament? It talks about the exact same god, gangsta version. If you're a Christian, the Old Testament applies. I can't see how you can try to weasel your way out of that one. The original statement was that Christians don't do as much damage as homosexuals (re-read the original posting for reference, since you can't remember it correctly). Throughout history (to include the Old Testament, since Christians swear everything in the bibles are an accurate account of history), Christians have done more than enough damage. Homosexuals have done none. The two can't compare.

My response is: tell me when you, not someone else, but you been tortured by a Nazi? Horrible, horrible logically fallacious copout. Just because you can't provide a direct example of experience of the things a group of people do doesn't mean that they don't happen.

What kind of tattoos do criminals get? Since, apparently, criminals are the only kinds of people to frequent tattoo parlors, maybe we can just prohibit certain tattoos that are commonly found on criminals. Let's outlaw tribal designs, gang symbols.. hm.. what else..? What do criminals get? I'm quite lost. Help me out here. We can let people still get little puppy dogs and crosses and angels and Mom's name on their arm. Surely you're not going to rob a bank with a Jesus head (complete with thorns) on your calf, right? So we'll just regulate the tattoos. If that sounds crazy, so does refusing to allow perfectly good citizens the right to do whatever they want to their own bodies, especially since it doesn't affect you in any way whatsoever and does not harm the person getting it done. If you don't like my little tattoo, then fine.. I don't like your haircut. Let's refuse to allow hair salons to operate. Your bad dye job is offending my eyes. Like I said, it doesn't make sense, but since you want to have pseudo-Nazi control over other people's lives, then let's party!

Comment Title: Re: Tattoo Parlors
The Aikenites who have this attitude need to pull their heads out of their pompous butts, in case you haven't noticed the criminals are already here without the Tattoo Parlors! The majority of people that I know, including myself, that have 'multiple' tattoos gave several years of their life to the defense of our Country and its Citizens. This act enables our Country's Citizens to have the right to have tattoos and to do as they please, as long as it doesn't infringe on the rights of others. Maybe, some of the Aikenite Snobs should remember this fact and get off of their high horses. Let others keep the right to do as they please to themselves, we don't need your protection!

Comment Title: RE:Left Lane Rule and Courtsey
Left Lane courtesy is not mentioned anywhere in Section 56-5-1810, or even in the SC traffic laws, so I'm not really sure why you quoted it along with an irrelevant 3rd party source of information. The fact of the matter is, the left lane is not the "fast lane", this situation should not be an issue. The speed limit is the same no matter what lane you're in, and unless you're passing someone or making a left turn, you should be in the right lane. Informal, made-up rules like "left lane courtesy" have no legal backing.

Comment Title: Left Lane Rule and Courtsey
SC Rule: SECTION 56-5-1810. Drive on the right side of roadways; exceptions.
(a) Upon all roadways of sufficient width a vehicle shall be driven upon the right half of the roadway except as follows:
1. When overtaking and passing another vehicle proceeding in the same direction under the rules governing such movement.
2. When an obstruction exists making it necessary to drive to the left of the center of the highway. Any person so doing shall yield the right-of-way to all vehicles traveling in the proper direction upon the unobstructed portion of the highway within such distance so as not to constitute an immediate hazard.
3. Upon a roadway divided into three marked lanes for traffic under the rules applicable thereon.
4. Upon a roadway restricted to one-way traffic.
(b) Upon all roadways any vehicle proceeding at less than the normal speed of traffic at the time and place and under the conditions then existing shall be driven in the right-hand lane then available for traffic or as close as practicable to the right-hand curb or edge of the roadway, except when overtaking and passing another vehicle proceeding in the same direction or when preparing for a left turn at an intersection or into a private road or driveway.
(c) Upon any roadway having four or more lanes for moving traffic and providing for two-way movement of traffic, no vehicle shall be driven to the left of the center line of the roadway, except when authorized by official traffic-control devices designating certain lanes to the left side of the center of the roadway for use by traffic not otherwise permitted to use such lanes, or except as permitted under item 2 of subsection (a). This subsection shall not be construed as prohibiting the crossing of the center line in making a left turn into or from an alley, private road or driveway.
In other words, unless you are passing another car the rule is: Keep to the right lane (b).
Lane courtesy is the simple act of moving to the right to allow faster traffic to pass. This act of courtesy will significantly improve road safety. By not obstructing other drivers, you are allowing traffic to flow more smoothly. When traffic flows smoothly, there is less tailgating, less weaving in-and-out of traffic, and therefore fewer accidents.
When drivers exercise lane courtesy, they defuse the situations that cause road rage. Ask almost any motorist what irritates them the most and the majority will answer, "left lane hogs." It is the failure of slower traffic to keep right or yield to the right, when faster traffic approaches, that makes driving a frustrating burden. The courteous act of moving to the right can eliminate driver stress and conflict, and make fellow travelers happy to share the road.
Yielding to faster traffic also reduces road congestion. When traffic is flowing smoothly, highway capacity can be utilized to its fullest extent. There are fewer speed fluctuations and lane changes, and less tail-gating.

Oh get over yourself. There are already shootings and robberies going on in Aiken without the tattoo parlor so whats your point? And why should you judge people because they have a little ink in their skin? They should open, and whether they stay open or not will show how they are appreciated. They SHOULD open because it is their right to do so, and if you don't want a tattoo heres what you should do...DON'T GO IN

Just curious, what damage have homosexuals done AT ALL? All I see them doing is living their lives how they wish and occasionally holding rallies to gain rights. Unlike Christians, homosexuals don't go around murdering and plundering innocent people in the name of god or killing them for not converting (Old Testament, Crusades, Witch Trials, need I go on?). Please tell me how you can even try to compare the damage done by Christians to the damage done by homosexuals, because I can't seem to make the math work.

So.. the dog catcher came out and left a note on your door letting you know he came out, but you're upset becaues he didn't call beforehand to set a date to meet you? I seriously doubt they go around scheduling all of their stops for the day and calling every single person in the entire county that calls in a stray dog to meet them. If the catcher came out, he did his job.. it's not guaranteed that he'll catch the dogs when he comes out. Set your own trap and catch them yourself. Try being proactive.

Comment Title: Lanes
The left lane isn't for "speeders". I do the speed limit and travel in both lanes. Get over it. It also happens that I often TURN LEFT and must drive in the left lane so that I don't swerve violently from the right lane at the last second to make my turn. If you could learn to drive the speed limit, you'd have no problems with other people driving the speed limit in the left lane. Furthermore, the "Slower Traffic Keep Right" signs are only on highways.. quit tailgating me when we're in the city. If I slam on my brakes and you hit me, it's your fault and your insurance. In this city I've often had to slam on my brakes because of stray dogs.. too bad you weren't behind me at the time, I'd love to see you pissed off or fly through the front of your windshield because you were tailgating. Just do the speed limit and you'll be fine... getting somewhere 5 seconds faster is not worth the risk. Tailgating will not force the person in front of you to go faster, all you're doing is being a dangerous driver. Please get off the roads.
