TalkBack for Nov. 18 11/17/2009 7:27 PM SRS workers
To the SRS non-Recovery Act, nonexempt workers: Stop working the cheaply compensated "straight-time" overtime hours. Management is laughing all the way to the bank. A union is not needed to facilitate change that benefits the best workers. I pray Obama is the change that this previously staunch Republican never realized.
SCDMV
The SCDMV should make sure they have the correct red, yellow and green or the City will put a stop to the downtown program.
Horse rapist
It is unconscionable that the horse rapist ever be released from jail. How do you think he treats children?
COLA increase
Regarding the comment that you always received an increase in Social Security during the Bush years and now it has stopped, what is it that you don't understand about the Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA)? Now that the economy is flat, there is no adjustment because the cost of living index, which has been in effect for many years, does not call for a COLA increase. This has nothing to do with the current administration.
White House
It might interest the person who wrote the rant about the Obamas handing out Halloween candy that George H.W. Bush and Barbara Bush hosted 500 children on Halloween in 1989, loading them up with candy. And there's also the Easter Egg Roll, a White House tradition since 1878. In 2009, George and Laura Bush had 13,000 hard boiled eggs prepared for this occasion, which is conducted for children in the Washington area.
Public option
If you like the H1N1 (swine) flu mess-up, you'll really love public health.
Post offices
If you are seeking a post office experience that never requires waiting in line, use the Warrenville, Gloverville, Langley or Bath post office. These are "one-station" offices; however, the service is always prompt and courteous.

Comment Title: DOWNTOWN!
For the people who are visiting, and also move here...it is a disaster at those lights. The first time I drove downtown at night I was totally confused by the fountains and what 4 lights? Yea it's all pretty for people who want to spend money this way. Also, I loved how the turn signals not downtown work also. Sometimes they are on and other times they aren't. Are you trying to save lives, or electric. I do have to say you have beautiful parks.

Tell that to the Native Americans who contracted small pox from the American colonists. Oh wait, you can't because they died.

Comment Title: Bruce
You can still get the flu after getting vaccinated. There is no guarantee that it will work. Since it isn't guaranteed, why subject your kids to the very real risks of dangerous side effects? Regardless of conspiracy theories, our bodies have evolved for millions of years to be able to combat illnesses. Staying healthy doesn't mean you have to get vaccinated against every single little thing out there. Our bodies can handle it as long as we take care of them properly. (And I mean properly as in, fruits and vegetables and exercise, not beer, chips, pizza, and sitting on the couch all day) My children will not get the flu shot. They are very rarely sick (rarely get any colds), because I've fed them right and made them exercise. I dont' feed them soda and candy all the time (almost never) or a bunch of processed foods. And guess what, they are healthy! Parents feed their kids crap and then wonder why they are sick. I'm 100% confident that if my kids came into contact with the swine flu (they might already have for all I know), their bodies will beat it. Because human bodies can naturally beat just about anything. I'm not a wholesome earthy nut, this is just common sense. Our immune systems evolved to take care of us. If this country could get its act together and quit being lazy, we wouldn't have an "epidemic" like this.

The fact that you are willing to let your loved ones die because of a silly conspiracy theory doesn't affect my life one bit. If or when they die it will be you telling your loved ones that you are a moron who could have done something, but chose instead to remain ignorant and ignore the help offered. Good luck with that.

It will be just a matter of time before conservatives demand he marry the horse to uphold the horse's honor. Unless, of course, the horse is male whereupon they will want to stone it.

With all due respect, If this doesn't scream that there is a need for more monies and other resources for mental health, I don't know what does. This man had some issues, serious issues that never got addressed. Instead of jail, he needed to go to a mental hospital

Your pediatrician is a bigger fool than you! LMAO! The government counts on people like you to buy into their propoganda! Did she/he also tell you that you can still contract the virus even WITH the vaccine?

I did ask my pediatrician and she had both of her kids the H1N1 shot. I think she said it best, get my kid the shots or sit with her in intensive care and watch her drown on her own fluids. She got the shot. People refusing to get their kids immunized remind me of the same idiots who live on the coast and stay when a hurricane comes, then they whine about losing a loved one, or want to be rescued off their roof. You should have taken the good advice, don't wait until after there is a serious problem.

You have a suppressed immune system, right? So why not indulge in some extra vitamin C, eat right and exercise rather than allowing yourself and your children to be used as guinea pigs??? Why don't you ask the doc or nurse if they or their kids have taken it? I think you might be surprised at the answer.

Comment Title: SCDMV
The City of Aiken has no control over the traffic signals on Richland Ave., Laurens Street, Whiskey Road and parts of York Street, Park Ave. and Chesterfield, because some of these are state and federal highways, i.e. Hwy 19, US 1, Hwy 78.
That is why the lights have not been synchronized and the City of Aiken was not allowed to change the settings. Also, this might be the reason that the ‘white line’ separating the two lanes of traffic on Richland Ave. (Hotel Aiken side) - between Laurens & Newberry is not in the Center of the Road!
I thought that everyone knew this except City Councilpersons L. Price…Oh yes she had to be told this by Don Sprawls during a council meeting when she suggested using one lane of Richland Avenue, east of Newberry Street for parking vehicles….and you think they have problems in Washington!!!

Comment Title: H1N1 Vaccine
http://www.digitaljournal.mobi/article/282042?
In the 70's, there were about 500 cases and 25 deaths. Considering some 40 million got the vaccine, statistically speaking the shot was effective. For most, it's a chance worth taking since far more people die from the actual flu than the shot. I and my 2 kids took it and we're doing just fine and we have suppressed immune systems. There are side effects for every medication, but that doesn't mean we stop or not take them. One case getting Guillian-Barre syndrome, even ten, considering how many people have received it is not as bothersome to me. Certainly, it would be ideal in a perfect world for that number to be zero.

There's a worldwide epidemic and republicans try to say that's a good sign that we don't need public health care LOL. The logic of these people is amazing, LOL. Yep, all kinds of nasty bugs going around--so we don't need to have universal health care. lol. Wow. Just wow.

If you didn't get an opportunity to get your dose of the barely tested, poisonous H1N1 vaccine, you should thank your lucky stars and quit complaining. Think Guillain-Barre syndrome in the 1970s, amongst other things. You may have just dodged a bullet. You should not be freaking out every time the government declares something an epidemic; it's all just smoke and mirrors. If the government cares so much about your health, cigarettes would have been illegal years ago.

Comment Title: The H1N1 "mess up"
The so-called "mess up" was created by the private sector drug companies who produce the vaccines. And, I wouldn't know about "private" health. I'm one of the growing number of people who cannot afford it.
