TalkBack for Nov. 5
11/4/2009 7:53 PM
Chili cook-off

The Chili Cook-Off downtown has not been in the paper. Who won?

Editors note: The Chili Cook-Off results were published on Monday, Oct. 26. Newberry Hall won first place, Aiken High Culinary got second place and Mammoth Outfitters won third place. To read the full story, visit www.aikenstandard.com/results/1026Flavors.

Phillies mystery

What does the HK stand for on the Philadelphia Phillies shirt?

Editors note: The HK stands for Harry Kalas, the Phillies announcer who died April 13.

Dog catcher

I would like to know what it will take or who will need to be called to get the Aiken County dog catcher to do his job and do something about the dogs that are being allowed to run wild on Mount Beulah Road in Windsor. These dogs are destroying my property and harming my cats. Calls to Animal Control don't seem to help. Can someone tell me why we are paying for someone to have this position when it's clear they are not doing the job?

Bus shop

When bus drivers call in a service call, why won't the school bus shop ever find the exact locations?

DuPont safety

Thank goodness for DuPont. They are back in New Ellenton, and we can all sleep better knowing there is someone with enough talent to operate that place.

Public transit

I wish Aiken's public transportation system was the worse I'd ever seen but for that to be true, Aiken would have to have a public transportation system.

Earth bound

Stop going to the moon. Have you noticed stormy and rainy weather every time we do? All those gas and oil fumes go into the air. God made this world and everything in it. He can surely take care of it. Eleven people have lost their lives and there will be more. Man will never be God.

No, as I previously suggested, call Aiken Taxi. Is it really that hard for some of you parasites to actually pay for a service you use instead of looking for a handout?

I am sure Baron would be happy to give you a ride, provided his mom will loan him the station wagon.

Comment Title: Dupont is back?
WSRC(basically SRR) had 'screwed' the workers since 1989, SRNS is not any better so far. I remember contacting Washington in 2000 when WSRC really started reducing the compensation of 'in the trenches' employees. Prove me wrong and I pray I am wrong but that is not the usual! SRS is the most complex employment experience I have ever experienced. Thank you Dupont for the severance pay, I have never forgotten.

Comment Title: dog problem, and crime i have the solution! solved!
i dont want to make any body mad by name dropping, but there is a building in downtown across from a pool place near a hotel that sells devices made to stop and deter criminals and devilhounds of all sorts...they come in sizes called caliber......my opinion larger the caliber the less the threat of having to use the device twice. i have a new one really nice caliber and it is only going to be used in the case of an emergency....then the remains will be promply aquired by a local goverment agency, that will be the easiest and quickest way to get any assistance, use it enough time in a legal manner and other criminals and devilhound owners will become aware of your stance and procedures for dealing with problems and it will cease...

Maybe he's busy catching other strays? If you're so fed up with it, do something about it. Set your own live trap and take the thing to the pound. Public service isn't perfect.. sometimes you have to actually do things on your own.

God can surely take care of Earth? So I guess all of the destruction that we've done to it must be part of his plan. And what's wrong with rainy and stormy weather? Rain is a good thing. We need it. We could even use more of it.

Comment Title:
Why is it that SOME "christians" criticize everything?! Are you serious? Going to the moon is going to send us to hell? If those are your convictions then so be it, but don't try to put it on everyone else. A sin for you might not be a sin for me! I believe and trust in Jesus, but you guys are getting it all misconstrued (sp???)TEACH THE WORD, NOT your personal opinion. Where in the Bible does it say that we should not explore the universe? If you have proof, I'd like to see it.

Aiken isn't large enough for efficient public transportation and people like yourself wouldn't pay the costs to make it a revenue neutral entity anyway. You would just expect us to subsidize yet another handout for you. If you need to go somewhere call Aiken Taxi.
