Any day, I expect to see Bush blamed for swine flu and the shortage of vaccines.
Grammar
When are people going to stop using "quality" as an adjective? I see ads, billboards (sorry, Aiken Regional) and signs where "quality" tries to describe or modify something; it can't do it. There is good quality, bad quality and every kind of quality in between.
Limitations
What are the limitations for use of a County vehicle?
Extension
The Powderhouse extension is ridiculous. How will someone from Couchton get to the Aiken Mall? They must be smoking something.
Food stamps
Why is it that some people can get food stamps who don't need them when there are families that are desperate but can't.
Tax disaster
The point of sale tax is a disaster. It ruined real estate in Florida and will cripple growth in South Carolina.
Schedule change
The parents of the Kennedy Middle School should call the school district and complain about why they're changing their schedule after the first nine weeks. There must be a forum.

Comment Title: Swine Flu
Bush was already blamed for Hurrican Katrina. We can not blame him for Swine Flu too. So, I will take the blame for swine flu. Since nobody has figured out what to blame Obama for. Wait, I will blame Obama for the rock slide on I-40, and the rock slide on Hwy. 64 in Tennessee. There, the buck has been passed to everyone. Oh, Clinton wanted every AMerican to own their own home. Then the banks went bankrupt. Obama wanted every American to own their own, economy friendly vehicle. Hmmmmmmm, is this a democratic pattern? Just asking, not pointing any fingers yet.

I didn't say people are stupid when they butcher the English language, I said they look stupid. There's a difference. Of course I don't judge people based just on spelling. But seriously now, if English is your first language and you were born here, you should at least know the difference between "they're", "their", and "there". We all had to take English for 12 years in school and the most basic stuff that people misspell are things we learned in 3rd grade.

well, some people aren't good with languages or spelling but may be better in other areas. you wouldn't want a doctor telling you, "geesh-how stupid that you don't know the name of all the enzymes that such and such produces and blah blah blah". People have their strengths and weaknesses and perhaps if it "grates" you that people can't spell-maybe look for something positive that they do-maybe they are good athletes, maybe they are good singers and help make wonderful music; maybe they are scientists or nuclear engineers that just are careless with spelling. I'm just saying that you shouldn't be so judgmental about something so small in the long run.

I know what people are saying when they misspell words and use them incorrectly, but it grates on my nerves. It's like fingernails on chalkboards to me. It's not that I feel "superior" or anything, it's just that people should know how to use the English language correctly! They just look stupid (especially when they butcher words on job applications! I wouldn't want anyone that couldn't spell simple words working for me).

Comment Title: Pick your battles
I'm more worried about people knowing the difference between "accept" and "except" than the use of the word "quality." There have been so many instances where I've seen businesses with signs that say, "We do not except bills over $20." I never make a huge fuss about it because I know what they meant, but it can be irritating.

you know exactly what people are sayin'...u r just trying to make yourself feel superior when you are really not. try feeding the hungry instead of trying to teach english "rules" so that maybe you are doing something that's actually going to matter to people. take your rules and stuff 'em.

You either use the language correctly or you don't. Make all the excuses you want. The fact is most people wouldn't understand the difference. Who dat dey say gonna beat dem Saints? Da masses be asses, bro.

it's not about being right, it's about being uptight. is there a time for using english in a formal, proper manner? of course. but sometimes people simply don't want to. right now I'm not capitalizing the first letter of each sentence--so who cares? it's not a big deal. you know what people mean. stop trying to sound superior because you know some english "rules". i know them, too--i just don't really care to use them all the time and that doesn't make you a better person. you sound really uptight and like you need a hug.

Comment Title: Quality as adjective
They'll stop this practice when they stop using "less" in situations when "fewer" applies. If you don't understand this, don't worry--you are in the majority. That makes you right, right? "English" is no longer a required subject in school, apparently.

Using quality takes into account that most people will know that something like "we have quality merchandise" means we have "good quality" merchandise. It's just like passing someone on the street and they say, "Morning!"--it's understood that they mean Good Morning. Stop being so anal retentive...and I know what you are thinking now..."Doesn't anal retentive have a hyphen??". Loosen up and take a chill pill.

My daughter goes to Kennedy and her classes have not been changed. However, if you have a complaint, call the district office, the administration at Kennedy is deficient when it comes to student issues.
