Up to 7,000 in SC missing Social Security checks
12/6/2008 2:24 AM
Associated Press
GREENVILLE -- Up to 7,000 people in northern South Carolina expecting their Social Security checks have not received them.

Officials tell The Greenville News that the problems are in 29 ZIP codes spread across the region.

U.S. Postal Service spokesman Harry Spratlin says the checks aren't missing and postal employees are working with Social Security officials to figure out the problem.

Social Security spokesman Frank Viera says anyone whose check is late needs to call the agency at 800-772-1213 or their local office because officials can't help unless they know someone is missing a check.

Officials say a similar problem was solved this week in New Hampshire.
