Woman charged with killing roommate's infant son

COLUMBIA (AP) -- Authorities say a 21-year-old woman has been charged with killing her roommate's 2-month-old boy.

Columbia police say Kendra Samuel shook the infant because he wouldn't drink his bottle while she was watching him last month.

Police say the mother called police when she returned home and found her son was not breathing. He died at the hospital.

Authorities say there were no signs the boy had been shaken before.

Samuel is charged with homicide by child abuse. She is at the Richland County jail awaiting a bond hearing. It wasn't immediately clear if she had an attorney.
