Edward Cleveland 'Eddie' Dunbar, Sr.
OAK RIDGE, Tenn. - Edward C. "Eddie" or "Pops" Dunbar, Sr, age 61, was called to come home and be with the Lord on Monday, September 6, 2010. He was born December 18, 1948, in Aiken, South Carolina, the son of Edward "Frank" and Martha (Williams) Dunbar.
Eddie served in the United States Army and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He received the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, and the Sharpshooter Award. He also served in the Oak Ridge National Guard for several years. He was a Maintenance Mechanic at the Oak Ridge Gaseous Diffusion Plant and later an over-the-road truck driver. Eddie was an avid fisherman, built and flew model aircraft, loved tinkering with and building computers, and he was a father to every child that he came in contact with.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Martha Dunbar, and his brother, John Wayne Dunbar all of Aiken, South Carolina.
He will be greatly missed by sons Edward C. (Jennifer) Dunbar, Jr. and John E. (Kaleisha) Dunbar; daughter Kim Kha (Johnny) Hatcher, former wife Kim T. Dunbar; grandchildren Jordan, Brianna, and Aiyana Dunbar; devoted sister, Edwena L. (Charles) Crowe; brother, William E. Dunbar, Sr.; sister-in-laws, Kim Scales and Joan Dunbar; local nieces and nephews Nicholas Crowe, Rebecca Crowe, and Joseph Scales. He is also survived by a host of uncles, aunts, cousins, and friends.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, September 12, 2010, from 3:30 - 5:00 p.m. at Weatherford Mortuary in Oak Ridge, the funeral services will be conducted at 5:00 p.m. Internment will be held on Monday, September 13, 2010, at 9:30 a.m. at the Tennessee Veterans Cemetery in Knoxville, TN, with full military honors.
