Kenneth Smith
BATH -- Entered into rest Monday, Feb. 8, 2010, Mr. Kenneth "Ken" Smith, 73, of Bath, beloved husband of 49 years to the late Betty Britt Smith and son of the late Kendrick and Jewel Josey Smith.
Born in and a lifelong resident of Bath, he retired from United Merchants after 27¬½ years of service. Following retirement, he went to work with Aiken County for another 10 years. Ken was a member of Bath First Baptist Church, was a 40-year member of Horse Creek Masonic Lodge No. 174, A.F.M., was a Scottish Rite Mason and was also a Shriner. Prior to his health declining, he enjoyed rabbit hunting and was a 40-year member of the Savannah River Beagle Club. In his later years, Ken could be found having breakfast at the Huddle House in Aiken.
Family members include a daughter, Pam Sanders (Marvin) of North Augusta; a special niece who was more like a daughter, Rhetta Gray (Wade) of Warrenville; siblings, Lora Carnell of Biglerville, Pa., Eunice Quackenbush of Warrenville, Jimmy E. Smith of New Ellenton, Barry W. Smith of Bath, the late Floyd K. Smith and the late Gerald "Jakie" Smith; grandchildren, Tonya Wallace (Gary) and Patrick Britt Sanders; and great-grandsons, James and John Tatum.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Thursday, Feb. 11 at 1 p.m. at Hatcher Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Langley, with Pastor Herb Sons officiating. Interment with Masonic Rites accorded will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Graniteville. Pallbearers will be Mark Quackenbush, Bo Quackenbush, Stanley Quackenbush, Alton Norris, Joey Meyers and Billy Kight. Honorary pallbearers will be fellow Masons with Horse Creek Masonic Lodge.
If so desired, the family has asked that memorials in memory of Ken be made to Bath First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 240, Bath, SC 29816. Friends may call at the home of Pam and Marvin Sanders. The family will greet friends Wednesday, Feb. 10 from 6 until 8 p.m. at Hatcher Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Langley.
