Davis crowned Miss USCA 2009

Gabrielle Serena Davis, sophomore accounting major at USC Aiken, was crowned the 2009 Miss USC Aiken on Oct. 22. The Annual Miss USC Aiken Pageant is hosted by Mu Lambda Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. of the USCA campus. The theme for the pageant was "The 21st Century Woman." She was also crowned the 2009 Miss Black & Gold hosted by the Sigma Tau Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. of the USCA campus in April and later participated in the 2009 South Carolina District Miss Black and Gold in Hilton Head Island on Oct. 10.

Davis serves as a member of the Pacer cheerleading team and is the daughter of Keith S. Davis and Michelle Harper. She gives special thanks to her brother, Blake S. Davis, Gail B. Diggs, friends and family.

RS-M Middle honors students

SRR joins Habitat to build new home

Savannah River Remediation LLC (SRR) has joined Habitat for Humanity and other sponsors to build a new home in North Augusta.

Groundbreaking ceremonies were held Thursday, and the building of the new house will commence shortly. SRR employees will join in the building of the home.

North Augusta Habitat for Humanity, True North Church, WFXG-TV and their Building Dreams partners, Savannah River Remediation, North Augusta Walmart, P.F. Chang's, Enloe Residential and Saturn of Augusta are also sponsors of the event.

SRR employees hit 1 million mark

Employees of Savannah River Remediation (SRR), the new liquid waste contractor at the Savannah River Site, have worked one million hours since the new contract started on July 1 without a lost day of work due to an injury.

The milestone was reached in October and continues a long tradition by liquid waste employees of working safe and being recognized nationally as one of the safest projects in the U.S. Department of Energy complex.

Native publishes sermon collection

Dr. Floyd Vernon Chandler, an ordained Unitarian Universalist minister originally from Beech Island, published a book Beyond the Grave: Love and Immortality. This book is a collection of sermons over his 33 years of parish ministry and chaplaincy.
