On Saturday, a memorial marker honoring the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was placed in the median at the intersection of Laurens Street and Hampton Avenue. The marker was made possible through the efforts and donations of the following: Concerned Ministers Fellowship, Christian Fellowship Churches, Cumberland AME Church, Montmorenci Baptist Church, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Mt. Anna Baptist Church, Friendship Baptist Church, Second Baptist Church, Community Development Improvement Corp., the Rev. Lester Smalls, the Rev. Bruce Stephens, the Rev. Anthony Wilson, the Rev. Ronald Coleman, the Rev. Willie Spann, the Rev. Darryl Padgett, the Rev. Westley Guyton, the Rev. Brendolyn L. Jenkins, Aiken Branch NAACP, The Imani Group, Attorney Kim Anderson Ray, Bush Auto, Links Inc., Royal Aikenites, Omega Psi Phi, Aiken Men Of Action, Ambassadors, Philip Howell, Lessie Price, Robert Grant, John Bryant, William McGhee, Gwendolyn Smalls, Mae Carroll and Denise Fleming.
