North Augusta games to be carried on the web
Boosters of North Augusta High School's football program will have another option for following the Yellow Jackets starting this evening, with the kickoff of an effort to air games via computer.
Local sports buffs Karl Waldhauer, Jeff Williamson, Derek Boyd and Jason Lynn are looking to have this evening's action -- a road game versus Irmo -- available at www.meridix.com/everywhere.php?liveid=NorthAugusta.
"This is absolutely new for everyone involved," said Waldhauer, the producer. "We were talking about it just prior to the season starting, and I guess word got out to a few folks, and they kept on building and building."
This evening's game, he said, provides a good starting point, as North Augusta is undefeated in Region 5-AAAA play and is on the road, meaning that some fans who might like to follow the game would be unable without a technological boost.
The effort became reality with a boost from SMS Sportsworld -- a local sporting goods retailer -- and the North Augusta Yellow Jacket Club, Waldhauer said.
He noted that Lynn will handle play-by-play duty, while Williamson will serve as color analyst. Boyd helped with technical preparation. Game time is 7:30 p.m., so the webcast will probably start around 7 p.m.
For the moment, there will be no commercials, but program organizers are looking for sponsors, and rates should be relatively low, as the preparation and presentation do not involve a "real grandiose experience," Waldhauer added.
Along with pregame material and the game itself, hopes are for a game wrap-up as well, possibly with coach interviews, depending on how things come together.
The game itself -- Yellow Jackets versus Yellow Jackets -- finds North Augusta with a 5-1 overall record and a 2-0 tally in the region, having most recently stomped White Knoll by a 35-7 score at home. Irmo is at 3-3 and 1-1. Its most recent game was a 21-14 loss at Aiken.
A link to the Yellow Jacket Radio Network is also available via the athletics option on the school's home page, www.northaugustahighschool.org.
