N.A. man killed in fire
A North Augusta man was killed in a fire at his home Tuesday night.
James E. Thorpe, 80, of Linnett Loop, died as a result of a fire at the home.
Aiken County coroner Tim Carlton said the fire broke out around 8 p.m. Thorpe was transported to Doctor's Hosptial in Augusta, where he was pronounced dead at 9:21 p.m. The cause of death was from thermal injuries and smoke inhalation, the coroner said.
North Augusta Department of Public Safety is investigating the fire.
This is the first fire death in Aiken County in 2009.
