Submitted article The 2009 United Way of Aiken County golf tournament raised more than $38,000.
The tournament, held at the Woodside Plantation Country Club, is historically one of the largest fundraisers for the agency. This year was no different.
Flanders Corp. and Shaw AREVA MOX Services were the platinum sponsors for the golf tournament, each donating $5,000 to the United Way campaign. The $2,500 gold sponsors included Baker Concrete, Indian Eyes, RCS Corp., Shaw Power Nuclear Business Division, Consolidated Power Supply, Columbia Mechanical and Keller Technology Corp.
"This year was the first time that MOX Services has sponsored this tournament. We had a tremendous response from the community and its sponsors," said Dave Stinson, MOX Services president and CEO. "It does the heart good to see so much support for those in need."
The money raised by this tournament will enable the United Way of Aiken County to fund programs that alleviate community problems. Three out of five Aiken County citizens have benefitted in some way from a United Way agency's efforts.
"This year, MOX Services took a swing at helping the United Way and sponsoring the annual golf tournament," said Floyd Bartoe, United Way tournament chairman. "It's been a rewarding experience, and we thank all of our contributors for turning our swing into a successful drive."
Ronnie Bass, Noral Belvin, Dennis Carter and Phil Chuy of Specialty Insulation won the Jones Course tournament with a score of 48. Winning the tournament on the Cupp course was Dan Plyler, Henry Lee, Eric Alexander and Fred Evans of Savannah River Nuclear Solutions with a score of 48.
