Shaw Areva MOX Services has donated thousands of dollars in toys, clothing and food to Our Lady of the Valley Community Center in Gloverville.

On Monday, MOX team members drove 18 cars filled with the gifts and delivered them to the center for the holiday toy and food drive in support of the Horse Creek/Graniteville community. Donations amounted to more than $23,500, with $6,900 stemming from corporate and private contributions, as well as raffle ticket and photo sales from the MOX holiday party.

"This far exceeded anything we've ever done in the past," said MOX Communications Specialist Nellie Isom.

The money raised enabled MOX Services team members to sponsor 116 children in need. Each child created a list of desired toys and clothing items, from which team members purchased four gifts, two toys and two pieces of clothing. Team members also made food contributions which will be distributed to the children's families.

"It was probably the most rewarding thing to see the smiles on their (Our Lady of the Valley staff) faces," Isom said.

According to its website, the Our Lady of the Valley Community Center ministers to the needs of the poor in Horse Creek Valley. The center serves all of the community, regardless of race or creed. Its mission is to identify and respond to the unmet needs of the community in the Horse Creek Valley area in the name of Jesus Christ.

"I am so glad that we were able to do this again this holiday season," said Terri Mulcahy, administrative manager at the MOX Project. "This is such a great cause and it helps the people right here in our community."
