Local man dies in car accident
A Ridge Spring man was killed early Sunday morning in a single-vehicle car accident.
Dwayne Ligons, 46, was pronounced dead at the scene of the incident, which occurred near Vaucluse around 5:12 a.m.
The vehicle, a 1970 GMC pickup truck, had been traveling northbound on Highway 191, when it left the roadway and struck a small bridge head-on, according to the Aiken County Coroner's Office. The car spun across the southbound lane before returning to the northbound lane.
The victim died as a result of multiple body trauma.
Ligons was the lone occupant in the vehicle and was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
Alcohol may have been a factor in the incident, according to the coroner's office.
The incident occurred in the vicinity of Vaucluse Mill.
The Aiken County Coroner's Office and the South Carolina Highway Patrol are investigating the incident.
Ligons' death is the 29th traffic fatality on Aiken County roads in 2008.
