Clarinetist ready to play holiday tribute show

Rekindle old memories while making new ones with a special one-night-only performance by Dave Bennett performing "A Benny Goodman Holiday Tribute."

The show will be held at the Washington Center for the Performing Arts on Friday, Dec. 18, and is the first installment of the Aiken Performing Arts Group's (APAG) 2009/2010 Portfolio Series.

Bennett has been de-scribed as a "jaw dropping clarinet prodigy who brings life to the holiday music of 'The King of Swing' with incredible technique, expression and sensitivity."

Bennett's show transports listeners back to the era of the 1930s and '40s with Goodman's popular hits and classic swing jazz. Bennett returns to Aiken following rave reviews.

"We are bringing Dave Bennett back on the basis of popular demand. He sold the place out two years ago and was received with multiple standing ovations because of the closeness of his interpretation of Benny Goodman. He is as close as anybody can come to the real thing," said Thomas Hofstetter, chairman of APAG. "He will play a holiday melody. The music will be light and fun, just the thing to get people's minds off the problems of the day and compliment the lightness of the season."

Tickets to the performance are $40 or $20 for students. The show begins at 8 p.m. Tickets to "A Benny Goodman Holiday Tribute" are available by contacting the Washington Center for the Performing Arts box office at 648-1438 or calling APAG at 643-4774.
