By KAREN DAILY
The Aiken County Sheriff's Office is investigating the shooting death of a 24-year-old Aiken man found left for dead on the side of Green Road in Aiken Wednesday, officials said.

Donald Hickman Jr. was taken to the Medical College of Georgia with multiple gunshot wounds around 6 p.m., officials said.

He was pronounced dead shortly after arriving, said Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton.

The man was found about 5:30 p.m. by a passing motorist who reported seeing the man lying in the roadway, according to officials. Green Road runs off S.C. 278.

It is the 16th homicide reported in Aiken County this year and the fourth reported in less than a week.

The body will be taken to Newberry later today for autopsy.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Aiken County Sheriff's Office at (800) 922-9709. Individuals also should call CrimeStoppers of the Midlands at (888) CRIME-SC. Callers can remain anonymous and will be eligible for a cash reward of between $50 and $1000.

Comment Title: Re: The Real Truth
The Victim was no different than the shooters. If it had been one of the shooters getting shot the response would have been the same. Four criminals off the street.

Comment Title:
Obviously drug related... possibly the victim owed the shooters money... or even tried to rob them...three people have been arrested and two live within a mile or so of the location... its just pure stupidity, the only tragic thing about it is that we have to read about such things on Thanksgiving.

Comment Title: What does it take
A tradegy such as this you would think. However this is not the case. Within a 10 mile radius of Hwy 278 and Silver Bluff Rd there have been numerous break ins, assaults,Domestic violence, suspicious arsons related fires and now murder. Several citizens of this raea have asked for assistance from the ACSO. To establish a neighborhood watch program or to ask if a patrol car could erde in his area maybe once a day, is that asking to much? Or is Clearwater the main focus of the county now.
