Father turns son in over holdup
A Thomson man has been jailed for a Tuesday holdup in the City of Aiken after the suspect's father reportedly saw his son's surveillance image in the media and called the police, officials said.
Shaun A. Benson, 26, is charged with armed robbery.
The suspect's father notified the authorities Tuesday of his son's alleged involvement, Aiken Public Safety Lt. David Turno said.
The suspect's father made arrangements for his son to turn himself in to authorities Wednesday morning at Aiken Public Safety.
The holdup was reported at the Kangaroo Express on Whiskey Road around 5 a.m. Tuesday.
The clerk said a man entered the store and robbed her while holding a screwdriver to her throat.
Newcomers' Club to meet on Dec. 8
The Aiken Newcomers' Club, a club for women, will meet Tuesday, Dec. 8, at Newberry Hall. Registration will begin at 10 a.m., followed by a business meeting at 10:15 a.m. The program will be Holiday Music by the BLuJayS, a female quartet. Lunch will be at 11:30 a.m. The cost of the luncheon is $14. Bring a check made out to Aiken Newcomers' Club.
Reservations and cancellations may be made no later than 6 p.m. Tuesday by calling 641-2309 for names (A-L) and 644-4107 for names (M-Z).
Meet to Take Off Pounds Sensibly
The Take Off Pounds Sensibly (TOPS) Club will meet on Tuesdays at 4:30 p.m. at 322 Gayle Ave., N.W. in Aiken.
