Tom Young will be sworn in today

Aiken Republican Tom Young, elected as the new S.C. House District 81 representative, will be sworn in at the Aiken County Courthouse today at 4 p.m. His predecessor in the House district, Skipper Perry, will provide the oath of office. The public is invited to attend.

Children's play presented today

USC Aiken's University Theatre will present the children's play, "The Emperor's New Clothes," at the Etherredge Center tonight at 7 p.m. The all-female cast includes Lauren Jenkins, Andie Nicks, Robin Kronberg, CiCi DeJesus and Chelsea Crook. Tickets are $7 for adults and $4 for students. For tickets or more information, call 641-3305.

Traffic stops to be frequent on I-20

There will be intermittent traffic stops on Interstate 20 during the week of Dec. 1 while work continues on phase two of the Palmetto Parkway.

All motorists should be aware of this potential for delays and seek alternative routes when available.

The work will take place just east of exit 5 and will cause delays for eastbound and westbound traffic. Officials expected the stops to take place between the hours of 8 p.m. and midnight throughout the week, according to a press release. Advance warning signs will be used to notify motorists of the upcoming activities. The Highway Patrol and local law enforcement will assist in traffic control.

ACTS in need of clothing, supplies

Area Churches Together Serving (ACTS) is in "desperate need" of children's coats and other clothing.

All children's clothes from infant to size 16 are needed, but especially:

* Children's pants or jeans size 2T, 5T and 6X

* Children's shoes

* Long-sleeved shirts 2T-8T

* Children's underwear and socks

* Women's undergarments in all sizes

* Men's undergarments in all sizes

* Men's pants and jeans sizes 28-40

* Coats

* Feminine hygiene products

* Blankets

* Towels

* Pots and pants

* Computers

* Baby food

Donations accepted Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the ACTS entrance on Hayne Avenue.

ACA will hold gift extravaganza


The Aiken Center for the Arts will hold a Holiday Specialty Gift Extravaganza on Friday, Dec. 5 and Saturday, Dec. 6 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Hat class offered at Sassy Knitter

The Sassy Knitter, 942D Dougherty Road, Aiken, is offering a '30s-style cloche hat class on Saturday, Dec. 6 from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. Basic knitting skills are required. Materials, class fee $30 and registration are required prior to first class. For questions or to register, call 643-KNIT (5648).

AIDS walk seeks entertainers

HopeHealth is a non-profit ASO and is having the annual AIDSWALK on Saturday, Dec. 6 at Osbon Park from 10 a.m. to noon. We are seeking the support of community entertainers. If interested in joining us for the AIDSWALK, call Barbara at 643-1977 for additional information.

Craft show will be Dec. 5 and 6

The 38th annual Christmas craft show will be held at the H. Odell Weeks Activities Center on Dec. 5 and 6 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Christmas in the park will be Dec. 6

Christmas in Sassafras Park will be held Saturday, Dec. 6 from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Burnettown Municipal Building. For more information, call 593-2676. All proceeds will benefit the Empty Stocking Fund.

Augusta Links to hold celebration



The Augusta Chapter of The Links Inc. will present its Links Mink Holiday Celebration on Sunday, Dec. 7 at 4 p.m. It will be held at the Julian Smith Casino on Broad Street at Milledge Road. ACP youth holding auditions Dec. 6, 7

Transportation group to meet

New Ellenton seeks entries

Rubber stamp, scrapbooking set

Flag football registration set

Harrison-Caver Park will be holding registration for the Adult Men's Church League Winter Flag Football from Monday through Dec. 19 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The cost is $285 per team. The season starts Jan. 12.
