AAUW held its meeting Nov. 9 11/18/2009 12:40 AM Submitted article The Aiken Branch of the American Association of University Women held its November general meeting and luncheon on Nov. 9 at USC Aiken.
A short film "The Edgewood - Stage of Southern History" was shown highlighting the Edgewood House. The house, now known as the Eulalie Salley House, is located on USCA's campus. Its history involves the Civil War, the 20th century's suffrage movement and the civil rights era.
Dr. Liz Stewart of Stewart and Associates was the guest speaker and spoke on the planning for AAUW's future in Aiken. An active discussion followed her speech.
Also discussed at the meeting was the upcoming Books and Things Fair. The sale this year will be held at the former Goody's store between Target and PetSmart in the Aiken Exchange on Whiskey Road.
Donations of Books and Things may be brought to the store every Saturday, beginning on Jan. 16 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and every Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The Books and Things Fair sale will be held on Friday, March 5 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday, March 6 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The AAUW is a national, nonprofit organization that promotes education and equality for women and girls. Membership is open to all two- and four-year graduates from accredited colleges and universities. New members and guests are welcome.
