Husband-and-wife authors Jack Bass and Nathalie Dupree will be signing copies of their latest works in Aiken next weekend.
Bass, author of "The Palmetto State: The Making of Modern South Carolina," and Dupree, whose latest culinary work is "Nathalie Dupree's Shrimp and Grits Cookbook," will have a book signing from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 21, at Aiken Office Supply, 2560 Whiskey Road. Bass will give a presentation on his book followed by another joint Bass/Dupree book signing from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Aiken County Historical Museum, 433 Newberry St. S.W.
Bass published "The Palmetto State" through USC Press in March. He is a professor emeritus of humanities and social sciences at the College of Charleston and director of the Citadel Alumni World War II Oral History Project. He is the author of seven previous history books, including "Strom: The Complicated Personal and Political Life of Strom Thurmond," and has twice been named the South Carolina Journalist of the Year.
Dupree is the author of 10 cookbooks and has hosted cooking shows on PBS, The Learning Channel and Food Network, including "Nathalie Dupree Entertains," and has been chef at restaurants in Spain, in Social Circle, Ga., and Richmond, Va. She was director of Rich's Cooking School in Atlanta and is often credited with starting the New Southern Cooking movement. Her previous books include "New Southern Cooking" and "Nathalie Dupree's Southern Memories," among others.
