It's a throwdown - bring on your best leftover turkey dish 11/8/2009 7:19 PM

Mike Gibbons is proud of his Kentucky Hot Brown - his special recipe for leftover turkey.
The Aiken Standard's managing editor is so confident that his dish is the best that he's challenging all of Aiken County to a Leftover Turkey Throwdown.
"Years ago, I watched a Bobby Flay show where he made Kentucky Hot Browns. I went into my experimental kitchen and decided to take Bobby Flay's hot brown and make it 1,000 times better. What I actually achieved, however, was one 4,000 times better. Ever since then, each Thanksgiving, my family moves our start time back a little bit, just so we can get to the Thanksgiving leftovers sooner. This year, we celebrated Thanksgiving in September. That's how bad they want my hot browns," Gibbons said.

If so, we invite you to enter the 2009 Aiken Standard Leftover Turkey Throwdown.
Entering is simple.
Just send us your recipe for leftover turkey and tell us why it's the best. Be bold - you're out to crush the man who claims to be king of the day-old bird.
We'll pick the best and invite them to bring their prepared dish to Auten's Family Restaurant. The folks at Auten's restaurant like the idea so much they decided to sponsor the contest, and they're giving the winner a $50 gift certificate.
At Auten's, a panel of judges will taste all the dishes and declare a winner.
The winner gets the $50 gift certificate from Auten's, bragging rights and the chance to ruffle Mike's feathers.
The Throw-Down finalists and recipes will be featured in the Aiken Standard and on aikenstandard.com.
Here are the rules:
Your recipe must be include turkey as a main ingredient.
It must be homemade, not bought prepared in a store or restaurant.
It can be hot or cold.
Recipes and meals will be judged on taste, presentation, texture and consistency and creativity and originality.
You must attend the Throwdown on the afternoon of Nov. 19.
Recipes must be complete.
Entering is simple
Send your recipe and a description of why yours is the best to Jennifer Miller, Aiken Standard, 326 Rutland Drive N.W., Aiken, S.C. 29801 or e-mail it to jmiller@aikenstandard.com.
The deadline to enter is noon on Friday, Nov. 13.
The finalists will be contacted shortly after that.
The winner will be named at the Throwdown on Nov. 19 and announced on Sunday, Nov. 22 in the Aiken Standard and on aikenstandard.com.

Here's a left over turkey recipe: 2 parts bitterness 2 parts arrogance Throw in 1 retired Navy colonel (the turkey)with hopeless political aspirations. Since this breed of turkey is two-faced, it doesn't matter if it is cooked on the top or the bottom of the bowl. What do you have? Lobb Casserole. The turkey meal that with leave a bad taste in your mouth for months. To slice, simply use the same knife the Col. Lobb uses to stab his "friends" in the back.
