Two recognized for contributions 11/2/2009 10:08 PM Submitted article USC Aiken Vice Chancellor Dr. Deidre Martin and Evie Vought, a university donor, have been recognized for their contributions to the university.
They were cited by the Greater Augusta chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) recently. Vought was named "outstanding philanthropist" and Martin, who coordinates university advancement, was named the "outstanding fundraising professional" for 2009.
Martin and Vought, along with five other individuals and organizations, will be recognized at the National Philanthropy Day luncheon, scheduled Wednesday, Nov. 18 at the Augusta Country Club.
According to the Augusta Chapter of AFP, the outstanding philanthropist award is presented to an individual or family whose record of generosity to various charitable causes has significantly improved the quality of life in the community.
Vought contributes annually to USCA's arts programs and has also established a planned gift at the university.
"Her passion for art was partly inspired by USCA art professor Al Byer," said major gifts officer Linda Evans. "She's demonstrated her appreciation for that inspiration through much-needed financial support to that department. Her generous gifts have allowed, and will continue to allow, (a number of) others to experience and enjoy arts through our campus."
The award to Martin is intended to recognize a person whose work exemplifies leadership, competence, achievement, ethical standards and commitment to philanthropy.
Chancellor Tom Hallman said he was proud to hear that Martin had been recognized for her hard work in the fundraising profession.
"For those of us who work with Deidre every day, it is easy to take her abilities, dedication and professionalism for granted," said Hallman. "This award is very well-deserved, in light of her successes and her enthusiasm for a job that was brand new to her only a few years ago."
