Suspect sought for meth lab in Bath 10/29/2009 9:22 PM By KAREN DAILY Staff writer
While investigating a possible burglary in Bath on Wednesday evening, Aiken County Sheriff's Office deputies came across a working methamphetamine lab, according to reports.
A deputy reported taking one step inside a mobile home on Bay Street and immediately smelled a paint thinner-type odor and walked into a white smoky fog.
The deputy saw two hot plates with glass beakers and a number of chemical containers nearby.
The evidence is consistent with making meth.
The deputy immediately left and notified investigators and the narcotics division to respond to the lab.
Sgt. Dave Myers said the sheriff's office is looking for the suspects believed to have been cooking the drug and will issue warrants for their arrests.
He said he should be able to release suspect information later today.
Deputies learned about the lab about 9:30 p.m. when a concerned resident noticed suspicious activity in the area, gave deputies a vehicle description and described the people he saw milling around.
The deputies saw the vehicle pulling onto the Bay Street property and began questioning the suspects.
After noticing a mobile home on the rear of the property, one of the suspects told deputies it was used for storage.
The deputy asked for and received consent to search the mobile home and found the lab.
Once inside, the suspect left the area, police said.
