Museum honored for its newsletter
The Aiken County Historical Museum was recently recognized for its outstanding newsletter.
During the month of October, the Aiken County Historical Museum competed against 107 other museums in the Southeast to claim top honors in the S.E. Museum Conference Publication Competition held in mid-October in Charleston, W.Va. The Aiken County Historical Museum's newsletter claimed second place in the In-House Museum Design Small Budget Newsletters category.
"This is wonderful for the museum," said Executive Director Elliott Levy.
The quarterly newsletter has undergone a major transformation in the past two years to become the award-winning publication it is today.
"The evolution has gone from a two-page, black-and-white newsletter to an eight-page, full-color. We now print 700 every quarter," said Brenda Baratto, newsletter editor. "It is only possible because of the Friends of the Aiken County Historical Museum."
The newsletter is printed in-house as a result of financing for necessary equipment provided by the Friends of the Aiken County Historical Museum.
"The newsletter has completely changed because of Brenda and what she has done. She has brought her many talents to the museum," said Levy.
The goal of the newsletter is to cover all of Aiken County not just Aiken.
"The newsletter is not just about here but the historical places in Aiken County. We cover as many of the historical areas of the county as we can. It is fun to put together, we really enjoy ourselves," said Baratto. "We hope the newsletter conveys that fun."
Drop by the museum located at 433 Newberry St. S.W. or call 642-2015 for more information about how to receive the quarterly newsletter.
