Man dies in motorcycle wreck
A reserve officer with New Ellenton Police Department died Monday morning after his motorcycle collided with an oncoming vehicle on Old Barnwell Road, officials said.
Joseph D. Randall, of Williston, was pronounced dead at the crash site, near Mount Beulah Road, about 10 miles east of Aiken, said Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton.
The victim died from multiple body trauma, officials said.
Randall was 52.
The crash occurred about 8:30 a.m. when the southbound motorcycle collided with a northbound Lincoln driven by Mary Dixon, 70, of New Ellenton.
No charges have been filed against Dixon.
She and her passenger, Jimmy Alford, 61, were wearing seat belts and were slightly injured, officials said.
Both were transported to the hospital with what officials have said are non-life-threatening injuries.
State troopers said the two-vehicle collision occurred after the motorcycle crossed the center line and struck the oncoming vehicle.
The crash occurred on a two-lane roadway.
State troopers have not said what caused the rider to cross into oncoming traffic.
He was wearing a helmet.
He was alone on the motorcycle, officials said.
The death is the 32nd fatality reported on Aiken County roadways this year.
