A Silver Bluff 10th-grader was arrested Tuesday afternoon for bringing a cap gun to school, officials said.

The sheriff's office is withholding the name of the student, a 15-year-old juvenile.

He was charged with disturbing schools and will be held at the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice in Columbia, said Lt. Michael Frank, a spokesperson with the sheriff's office.

The Aiken County Sheriff's Office, in cooperation with the Jackson Police Department, arrested the Jackson teen after a student reportedly tipped off adults that the teen had displayed the firearm in his waistband during physical education class.

Deputies and officers responded to the school and removed the teenager from class, Frank said.

Silver Bluff High School has a school resource office on campus full-time.

District policy dictates that under normal circumstances a student bringing any type of weapon to school is automatically subject to expulsion.

He will appear in Aiken County Family Court today or Thursday, Frank added.
