Pair of wanted men surrenders 9/14/2009 7:46 PM By MICHAEL W. GIBBONS Managing editor
Two men wanted on allegations of possession of stolen goods turned themselves in to authorities on Friday.
Aiken County Sheriff's Office's Sgt. Dave Myers said Steven Maurice Burton, 38, of 106 Scrub Oak Road in Ridge Spring, and Clyde James Hendley II, 31, of 154 Front St., Bath, were booked into the Aiken County detention center.
Burton is charged with receiving stolen goods, failure to appear and pay family court, chop shop conspiracy nine counts and receiving stolen goods valued at $5,000 or more. Hendley is charged with receiving stolen valued at goods $5,000 or more, receiving stolen goods/chop shop conspiracy seven counts, receiving stolen goods/chop shop stolen and altered property two counts and receiving stolen goods valued at more than $1,000 but less than $5,000.
Myers said last week that the men were being sought in connection with a trailer stolen from a North Augusta business and a camper reported stolen in Richmond County.
In May, Hendley was jailed for arson on allegations he set fire to his home mid-April with the intent of collecting insurance money, according to investigators.
"We believe he tried to burn his house down by setting his couch on fire," said Clay Adams, Sheriff's Office arson investigator.
The Bath Fire Department chief said he contacted Hendley minutes after the fire started, but the owner never returned to the residence.
A neighbor told investigators she saw Hendley leave the house shortly before the deputy arrived.

Comment Title: White Trash
This pair of white trash needs to be hung on the town square. It's time we the people of this country put a stop to the stealing and robbing. The only way to do it is by inflicting severe pain to those thugs who commit the crimes.. Our court systems are a joke. We need to get back to the old west days... If you steal a horse you pay with your life. These punks can't survive in life and need a free place to stay with meals every day.. Get a Job you bunch of thugs....
