The challenges associated with filming a television series on horseback have been rewarded as "Equitrekking," hosted and produced by South Carolina native Darley Newman, received the Daytime Emmy Award for outstanding single camera photography.

The show's crew consists of three people - Newman, executive producer Chip Ward and director of photography Gregory Barna.

The show, now in its fourth season, is shot in high definition and airs on the Public Broadcasting System.

"Equitrekking" was honored with its Emmy Award at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards Black Tie Ceremony in Los Angeles this past weekend. The series had also received a nomination for outstanding special class series.

"We're so excited as you can imagine," said Newman. "We knew it was a big deal to be nominated, and we were thrilled to be there. It was great to be sitting in the company of celebrities and television executives. We feel honored to be recognized with the show having such a small crew. Greg our cinematographer made a speech, and we went up there with him. It was unbelievable."

The crew recently filmed the 28th episode in Alberta and Uruguay.

Among the celebrities who were on hand during the presentation of the Daytime Emmy Awards included Alex Trebek, celebrity chef Ming Tsai, talk show host Wendy Williams and cast members of Sesame Street, said Newman.

"I had never been to L.A. It was interesting; it's totally different from the East Coast," said Newman. "We met a ton of people at the Emmys. A lot of PBS shows received nominations. We were honored to be there."

"Equitrekking" can be see Thursdays at 7 p.m. on SCETV.
