Dyer to speak to Aiken Dems

The Democrat trying to win back the 3rd Congressional District will be in Aiken on Thursday trying to rally her base to her campaign.

Congressional candidate Jane Dyer is set to headline the Aiken County Democratic Party's meeting as she continues her run for the congressional seat currently occupied by Rep. Gresham Barrett.

The former Air Force pilot is the Democratic Party's nominee and will face Republican state Rep. Jeff Duncan in November's election.

Dyer's campaign has focused on job creation, veterans rights, national security and education.

"I'm enjoying going to the voters in the cities and towns of the 3rd District, meeting with them, speaking to them and hearing the concerns of educators, business leaders, veterans and local officials," Dyer said recently. "I am particularly interested in the needs of veterans because my stepson, John, has just returned from his third tour of duty in the war zones of Afghanistan and Iraq. I also hear a lot from working and non-working families who are struggling with this economy."

Dyer won 65 percent of the vote in her primary election contest, defeating Brian Doyle, who received 35 percent. This is the second time Dyer has run for this seat; she was defeated by Barrett in 2008.

"Not only do I have the experience of my 2008 campaign, but my dad ran for this same congressional seat years ago," Dyer said.

Dyer is a graduate of Clemson University with a degree in mechanical engineering.
