Woman dies in crash in North Augusta

A fatal crash just outside North Augusta on Friday claimed the life of a 75-year-old woman, officials say.

Daisy May Ingram, 75, of North Augusta, suffered multiple body trauma after the vehicle she was in was struck from behind and overturned.

The two-vehicle crash occurred about 11:15 a.m. at the intersection of Augusta Road and Old Aiken Road.

Ingram was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, said Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton.

She was the unrestrained front seat passenger in a 2000 GMC Jimmy sport utility vehicle driven by her granddaughter Daphne Ingram, who officials said had recently moved in with her grandmother.

Daphne Ingram was attempting to make a left turn onto Old Aiken Road when her vehicle was struck from behind by a 2000 Toyota Camry driven by Robert Simmons, 45, of North Augusta, the coroner explained. He was the only motorist in the Toyota. He was restrained.

Both Daphne Ingram and Simmons were transported to MCG with non life-threatening injuries, officials said.

Another passenger in the rear of the SUV, a male, was taken to the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta with what appeared to be non life-threatening injuries. He was not restrained.

The Friday morning car crash is the 21st fatal car crash in Aiken this year.
