Alzheimer's care conference held today
Watching Alzheimer's disease and/or dementia claim a loved one is difficult and often causes caregivers to feel alone in their daily struggles.
The third annual Alzheimer's Education Conference, to be held in Aiken by the Alzheimer's Association, will take place today from 8 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. at Newberry Hall.
The conference titled "Serving the Underserved/Vulnerable Geriatric Populations" will be lead by guest speaker Alzheimer's expert Teepa Snow, MS, OTR/L, FAOTA, who travels the Southeast, leading seminars to equip caregivers for the journey of Alzheimer's disease.
Snow is a occupational therapist working as a dementia care and dementia education specialist. She has more than 29 years of experience in geriatrics and has developed two training videos, published many articles and presents nationally on a variety of topics to a wide range of audiences.
Topics to be covered in today's seminar include: "Learning to Let it Go and Live in the Here and Now," "Demystifying Resistance and Refusals - Understanding Behaviors & Then Helping," "Driving Issues - Signs That Say It's Time to Stop and How to Help" and "Baby Boomers as Caregivers...and Who Will Care for the Boomers?"
The cost of the seminar is $30 and space is still available for registration today. Call 642-8444 or arrive at Newberry Hall. All proceeds from the seminar benefit the Alzheimer's Association - South Carolina Chapter.
