Wilson to hold town hall meeting

One outburst turned an obscure South Carolina legislator into a household name.

Though he apologized for the out-of-turn remark, U.S. Rep. Joe Wilson gained capital, both fiscal and political, and media attention coming forward as a major player in the recent movement against President Barack Obama.

Wilson represents part of Aiken County as congressman for the second district. On Wednesday, Wilson will be in Aiken at a town hall meeting to discuss economic development and job growth. Wilson's focus in the recent election push was his much publicized "Joe Mean Jobs" tour, of which this meeting is not part, though it continues on similar lines.

According to Wilson spokesperson Pepper Pennington, Fred Humes of the Aiken-Edgefield Economic Development Partnership, Tina Barfield of the One Stop Career Centers and Adam Jordan of the South Carolina Department of Commerce will also take part in the event.

Oakwood-Windsor Elementary School will play host to the event that begins at 6 p.m.

The guests will sit on a panel and discuss their office, its role in job creation and the economy. Wilson will also make remarks focusing "on job creation policy and out of control Washington spending," according Pennington.

After the speeches, there will be an open forum for attendees to ask questions of Wilson and the panel.

If one is unable to attend, Wilson is promoting two Republican-funded websites designed to give supporters a way to interact with this meeting and events. AmericaSpeakingOut.com and YouCut.com are the two sites that offer information. Both sites are funded by Eric Cantor, R-Va., the House Minority Whip.

Politics is a family affair in the Wilson household; Alan Wilson, Joe's son, is the Republican nominee for attorney general. The younger Wilson won after the runoff against private practice attorney Leighton Lord. Both candidates received around 40 percent of the initial primary vote.
