Staff writer

The Department of Energy's Savannah River Operations Office and Savannah River Nuclear Solutions LLC will hold job fairs and town halls in Aiken and Augusta on employment opportunities for the Site's Recovery Act projects.

Aiken's town hall will be held on Tuesday, July 7, at 11 a.m. at Aiken Technical College, 2276 Jefferson Davis Highway.

The meeting will be held at the college's Amphitheater Building.

A job fair will follow the town hall meeting at Aiken Tech on Tuesday. The job fair will be held from noon to 3 p.m. in the gymnasium.

The town halls will be hosted and moderated by DOE Senior Manager Jeff Allison and SRNS President and CEO Chuck Munns.

The meetings will begin with a 15-minute overview of the SRS Recovery Act project and a progress update. They will be informal and those attending are encouraged to ask questions about the Recovery Act project.

The Augusta town hall meeting will be held on July 20 at Paine College, 1235 15th St., Augusta. The meeting will begin at 11 a.m. in the Gilbert-Lambuth Chapel. A job fair will follow at Paine's Cater Gymnasium from noon to 3 p.m. The project is expected to bring more than 3,000 jobs to the area in an effort to accelerate cleanup at SRS.

According to Paivi Nettamo, a spokeswoman for SRNS, about 600 people have already been hired for the 30-month project. Nettamo said officials are looking to hire more than 2,000 additional employees for the project.

The town hall meetings and job fairs are being held to provide the public with information about progress at SRS and upcoming employment opportunities. Both events will be open to job seekers, current employees and members of the public.
