Williston man arrested after five-hour, two-mile manhunt

Staff writer

A Williston man is being held at the Aiken County detention center for a speeding violation; however, after a five-hour manhunt for the suspect, more charges are pending, officials said.

Gregory Dicks Jr., 28, was stopped shortly before 1 p.m. for a speeding violation on Veterans Road in Wagener.

During the stop, "some contraband" was found in the vehicle, and the suspect ran, said Lance Cpl. Scot Edgeworth, a trooper with the S.C. Highway Patrol.

According to police radio traffic, South Carolina Law Enforcement Division agents, including helicopter crews, and Aiken County Sheriff's Office deputies helped troopers search for the man for nearly five hours, calling on the Aiken Bloodhound Tracking Team to assist.

Sometime after 5:30 p.m. and about two miles away from where the traffic stop was initiated, Dicks was arrested.

If only the law took more effort in tracking down the sex offenders that live next door... You know violent crimes! By the way this individual does have a job. May need to worry about little Tommy and Becky because the Meth uses are rising and so are the pills. Guess what there doing those drugs righ now while you at work and while the police are chasing Mr. Dicks. But guess what it will never make the paper.

Gregory Dicks, Jr does not sound like an African name. I also doubt Mr. Dicks has ever set foot on African soil so why is he called an African American?

Comment Title: So quick to judge
Readers need not forget that this young man has family and friends that love and care about him very much. Though there is no justifying what took place, all praise be unto Him who is able to keep us from falling. Let us not be so quick to judge as any one of us could be just a routine traffic stop away from an unpleasant situation similar to this. All young African American men are not THUGS. Let us not be so quick to judge when only select "pieces" of the truth are released.

Another thug in custody. If he were at work he wouldn't have been running from the law. Then again, if we didn't have NAFTA, THERE WOULD BE JOBS HERE TO GO TO.
