Draw your mom was a fiercely fought contest 5/10/2009 12:37 AM By RACHEL JOHNSON Staff writer
With more than a hundred entries, selecting the winners of the Draw Your Mom contest was a daunting task. All of the artwork submitted was created with talent and brought smiles to the faces of staff at the Aiken Standard. All submissions are featured online at www.aikenstandard.com. The winners in each of the three age categories are listed below. If you enjoyed this contest, keep your crayons sharp as a Father's Day contest is just around the corner.

Lindsi McPherson, 8
A resident of Warrenville and a student at Gloverville Elementary School, Lindsi and her entire class participated in the Aiken Standard's Draw Your Mom contest. Upon learning her artwork was selected as the winner of the 6 to 8 age category, Lindsi was all smiles.
"I am very happy. I can't believe I won," she said. "My mom is very special to me. I love her. This is the first time I have ever won anything."
Her message to her mother Stacey Keenan is from the heart.
"Happy Mother's Day, Mom. I love you," she said.
Micah Lerverette, 5
Winner of the 5 and under age category, Lerverette and his brother both created portraits of their mother Cara Lerverette. Micah sat at the dining room table, hiding his picture from his mother until he completed it.
"I couldn't find the peach crayon so this is mom with a sun tan after we go to the beach in the summer," Micah explained.
"I am very proud of him," said his mom. "This is his first time winning anything."
Micah explained he tried to draw her hair barrette but decided it looked like a tiara.
"She is a princess," he said shyly.
Micah and his brother frequently watch their mother create artwork as she is a local artist whose work has been on display at the Aiken Center for the Arts.
