Rolling Stone keyboardist to be at Fort Discovery
Musician, conservationist and author are all in a day's work for one visiting writer.
Rolling Stone keyboardist Chuck Leavell will read the children's picture book "The Tree Farmer" on Friday at 1 p.m. in the theater at Fort Discovery in Augusta.
After Leavell reads the book to the audience, he will be available for signings. Leavell and his wife run a family tree farm near Macon, Ga., and "The Tree Farmer" is based largely on their life on the farm.
The book description as appears on the cover states: "A grandfather who owns a tree farm takes his grandson on a magical journey through the forest, where trees become musical instruments, books, a baby's crib and more. The story explains the vital role that trees play in our lives, providing us with the wood for our homes, furniture and other products - and mankind's responsibility to protect and care for them."
The book is coauthored by Chuck Leavell and Nicholas Cravotta with illustrations by Rebecca Bleau.
There is no admission charge for the event, and the public is invited.
The National Science Center's Fort Discovery is located at 1 Seventh Street on the Riverwalk in Augusta. They may be reached at (800) 325-5445 for additional information.
